Fernando Ferreira is a General Surgeon specialized in Upper Digestive Surgery: Stomach and Esophagus, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Emergency Surgery and Trauma (Former DSTC® and ATLS® Instructor), Former Flight Surgeon for Portuguese Helicopter and Emergency vehicle of The Portuguese Emergency Medical System, Surgical Control of Sepsis, Handling of the Open Abdomen, Handling of Intestinal Fistulas, Complex Abdominal Closure and care directed to tissue viability (wounds of difficult healing). He has participated as a speaker and guest instructor for various international conferences, national and internal courses regarding emergency and trauma situations, surgical control of sepsis, open abdomen handling, management of intestinal fistulas and open and minimally invasive complex abdominal Wall reconstruction.
Fernando Ferreira has been a member of a working group of international experts that published multiple articles on consensus recommendations based on evidence on wound treatment with Negative Pressure Therapy on: treatment variables, chronic and traumatic wounds in reconstructive surgery. He has participated with a group of international experts that published recommendations on Surgical wound dehiscence: Improving prevention and outcomes. Fernando Ferreira has been an active member of a working groups of European Surgical Experts for the Surgical Infection Society and the European Hernia Society that contributed with clinical guidelines on the management of the abdominal wall in the context of the open or burst abdomen. He is also an Author and Co-author of several articles and book chapters (National and International).
