Dr. Helgstrand is a leading upper GI surgeon with over 15 years of experience in advanced open and minimally invasive surgery, including complex abdominal wall reconstruction. Since 2014, he has led the Upper GI and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Unit at Zealand University Hospital and established its robotic hernia repair program in 2020. In 2024, he founded the In Surg science group to drive cross-disciplinary, data-driven surgical research. As President of the Danish Hernia Database and an associate professor, he advances national quality initiatives, international collaboration, and education focused on surgical outcomes, innovation, and patient-centered excellence.
